How to Submit an Application for Travel Assistance

This site provides an online facility to create and maintain applications for travel awards. To use this site you will need a SIAM ID and Password. If you do not have a SIAM ID you can create one by visiting SIAM’s customer service portal at There is no charge and you DO NOT NEED TO BE A MEMBER to obtain an ID. If you do not remember your ID or password you can obtain it using the same link.

Prior to creating an application please assemble the following so you can complete the application efficiently:

  • A current curricula vitae (CV) that includes contact information, the date (or expected date--month/year) of your PhD, the institution awarding your PhD, and your advisor's name (if you are still in school). In addition, you may provide a URL for a working Web page that provides information on your research interests, projects, and published papers.
  • A statement requesting the travel award and providing the rationale for the request and explaining your interest in attending the conference. If applicable, the statement should include the title(s) of the paper(s) to be presented (co-authored) at the meeting. Preference will be given to candidates who are presenting their work at the conference
  • The name and email address of a senior colleague or advisor who will provide a letter of support for your application and any special circumstances. This letter is required for students and recommended for post-docs and early career professionals. We will send them a separate request for this letter. You will not be able to directly upload the letter of support as part of the application process.

Applications are organized by conferences. In order to create an application, navigate to the “Applications” page and locate the conference you wish to attend. Select “Create Application” and complete the form. You must supply all required information (identified by an asterisk “*”) in order to submit your application. Therefore it is important that you assemble all of this information prior to creating your application.

Note that while the letter of support is not required by the system it may be required for your specific circumstances or a given conference. Therefore you are encouraged to familiarize yourself with the requirements that apply to the circumstances of your application and provide all of the information that will make your application as complete as possible.
